Board Approves Demolition

We just learned that the board approved the demolition and rebuilding of the clubhouse, despite the lack of firm bids and public support. A general meeting is expected sometime in the future to explain how this is better than refurbishing the existing building. Expect black magic, smoke and mirrors, mickey mouse math, and differentiation from the gatehouse project. See the MAY05 Summit Advisor for details.

Questions to ask: Who bid on the renovation and what are the line item costs? Has the board considered individual subcontractor bids to renovate the existing clubhouse (as in the 2000 five-year plan) and if not, why not? What is the value of the existing clubhouse, that is; what would it cost to replace it as is? What is the itemized difference in maintenance costs old vs. new, and how were these figures arrived at? How will a new clubhouse solve the problems cited with the old clubhouse, such as vandalism? Why was the clubhouse committee dissolved?

Candidates Wanted

If you are a fiscal conservative, retain integrity in the face of opposition, place community ahead of special interests, anticipate motives of others, have common business savvy, can analyze community problems and weigh multiple solutions, can sell your ideas in the face of adversity, work well with people but believe in clear direction and despise corruption, your community needs you on the Lake Holiday Board of Directors. There are seven board seats open this year and the Lake Holiday community needs your strong responsible leadership during this critical development period. See the official Lake Holiday Community Newsletters and website http://www.lake-holiday.org/ for instructions.

If you are able to volunteer for this important community service, we offer some suggestions: Since your submitted resume is your primary advertisement, be sure to tailor it to enumerate your community oriented qualifications and vision. Be prepared to promote yourself and verbally discuss your qualifications - this can be awkward if you haven't applied for a job recently. If you run and are not elected, do not take it personal. It is impossible to predict how many other candidates will run and what their qualifications are. Incumbent board members may run for reelection as well, but their selection is not automatic. It is better to have volunteered so that the community has a wide choice of candidates, than to have an insufficient number. In the latter case, the board gets to recruit and appoint their choice of fill-ins. And finally, now is the time to consider it - the position does require timely forethought, planning and commitment - but you can make a difference in the long run!
