Editor's Notes
The Saturday 04/01 Spring Fling was a overwhelming success despite cooler afternoon weather. About a hundred kids and parents enjoyed a variety of activities which included face painting, a petting zoo, assorted races and refreshments. A full size Easter bunny was in attendance to distribute candy treats to youngsters.
The vandalism season is upon us. Numerous street signs in sections 1 and 2 have disappeared. Often overlooked by vandals is the replacement cost of such signs which requires inventory, layout, remanufacture and remounting costs bringing the real value of each to several hundred dollars. If you find one in your home, you should return it to the office to reduce replacement costs. Vandalism caught early can circumvent more serious offences in the future.
Preliminary clubhouse Architect's plans were reviewed 3/29. Of primary concern were revisions to the lower level restrooms, which are being divided into inside and outside areas. The outside accessed rooms will service the beach this summer and are to be ready for bids around April 7th. The bid set for the remainder of the structure is due the end of the month.
It appears the Board is seriously considering a skateboard park requested by a group of young residents. Rationale is that ownership leads to self policing, a concept not universally accepted. Apparently all that is requested is a flat area upon which boarders will place portable ramps and other obstacles, and not a hollowed out area with angled walls. One concern is that the structure be useful over the long term and not lie dormant like the ball field, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts.
The office has spent an extraordinary amount of time in the past six months servicing information requests and demands by Mr. Murray. Since he has several actions in progress, all replies must be reviewed by counsel, adding to the cost. While some may delight in the rescission of the utility rate increase brought about by Murray, the company cannot operate at a loss indefinitely and can only recover via additional income. So far, all Mr. Murray has accomplished is to tie up office and Board resources better utilized in other areas. And by the way, we the residents are paying for this pointless pursuit.
The Board has passed several document changes submitted by the Architectural Committee. The Architectural Guidelines document gets a revised introduction which incorporates and discontinues Section F - Exterior Changes. A revised Fence Guidelines - Section G - further details types and placement of fences. A new Agreement for Building Construction form casts a more stringent contract with builders and owners, and concurs with a newly revised enforcement policies guideline. An internal Initial Construction Review Summary checklist is being trialed during Initial Construction site visits to capture details for committee review. If applicable, it will lead to a reduction of forms in the Initial Construction Application package.
