Hi, I’m Bill Adams.
I’ve
been a resident of this fine community for over five years now and have been
active on the Architectural Committee for three.
First of all let me say that I’m not very good at talking
about myself. I usually rely on other people’s observation of my performance.
I’m a results oriented candidate, and not a flashy one. I guess if you were to
summarize my qualifications it would be as follows;
I’ve
worked as a applications programmer a good part of my career. To be a
successful computer programmer, one must anticipate every possible condition
and eventuality. Otherwise the program, and possibly the system will crash.
I’ve learned apply this analysis to many other parts of my life. I always shop
for the best deal and research major products in detail before purchase. I am a
avid skeptic when a deal looks too good and I respectfully question the
unsupported assertions of others. I believe this is an important skill needed
which I can bring to the board of directors.
I’ve been a critic of this and past boards. I’ve
warned against first right of refusal and dependence on the Developer. I’ve
seen public money arbitrarily squandered on non-essentials. Projects like the
bus stop and gatehouse are a net loss. The usefulness of the roving patrol is
questionable. If the majority insists on retaining this function, I would
require the patrol officer report rules violations and contractor abuses. This
would at least give the officer something productive to do besides driving
around and wasting gas.
The clubhouse has been a series of unfortunate
events. A clubhouse committee in 2000 had a five year plan which would have the
building open today if the board hadn’t gotten greedy. The committee got as far
as replacing the roof and siding. The Directors, however thought they would get
the Developer to fund the project, dissolved the committee and immediately
started piling on all kinds of expensive features. Then they ran off in another
direction and decided to tear it down and rebuild.
If elected, I will work to reinstate the volunteer
clubhouse committee and empower them to produce viable renovation plans and
alternatives, including cost estimates or quotes to be approved by the
community.
With Aqua America taking over the utilities, there
is a reduced need for oversight. I will work to size the LHCC staff
accordingly. Resizing by attrition is the preferred option.
If the new documents are voted down, as I believe they
will be, I will work to evaluate the need for alternatives. I believe a simple
common declaration modeled after a newer sections would satisfy most residents,
and should have been proposed in the first place. That would solve the
inconsistency assertion by combining the 14 separate deeds. At the same time we
can modify some of the arcane rules such as sign prohibition and house size
requirements.
I believe that regulation of the numbers power boats
is unnecessary. While some claim the lake is too crowded, I have yet to see
more than 25 boats out at a time. Boating is self regulating – people wait
until later if it is too crowded. This feature does not belong in the
declaration. Likewise, neither does subassociations or refusing boat storage
on-property.
There are numerous shortcomings observed in my
tenure on the Architectural Committee, some of which I’ve been able to fix by
writing new guidelines or revisions. Most recently I drafted step-by-step
procedures for processing Architectural applications which insures consistancy
in member and office handling, and a checklist for initial construction
applications which saves office and member time by reducing rejections due to
missing components. I would like to be able to extend that initiative to the Board
of Directors where I think I can bring a new sense of order and purpose.
A vote for Bill Adams is a vote for common sense.
Thank you for your attention and your vote.
